Default Is this a good deal?

Dear downlink gurus,

I'm new to the idea of a wireless video downlink so I can see my camera view when on my kite, does this represent a decent package given the limited range I'll require?

Steve:

DPCAV is a good resource for all wireless systems/goodies. The 900 MHz 1 watt (1000 mw) transmitter is a good chioce, with lots of power. Non-US residents also have four channel options available as well. They also offer 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz wireless kits at a fair price.

The "Inspire" telemetry unit with OSD would realy compliment your setup. Using the 5 Hz micro GPS module provides very fast updates. Look in thier "Special Deal" section and save 50% on demo models, which are covered under full factory warrantee and with the latest rev updates. Plus, it a really cool feature to have when soaring above.

I have used the hobbywireless products for 5 years, quality is great. I think that 500Mw system is fine for what you need even though I would get a 1000Mw system if I were you.

It is a great price, but keep in mind the platform used. 155 grams (5.46 oz) is extremely heavy for a kite, better suited for a larger RC helicopter or mast.

Also note, a receiver is not included but also available at a decent price.

Thanks for the heads up on another downlink.

Troy,

I am unaware of his kite size. Some kites are larger than others, which weight then is not so much of a factor. However, I appreciate your response.

Kites usually lift no more than 1 lb including ALL gear. KAPer's are minimalist's, I also have a kite rig and know all of the kites and capabilities, spoken from experience. I was only informing you, and others that weight is a factor in various forms of AP. No need to take offense.

Troy,

No offense taken. The kite rigs here in CA, must be different from what you use in your area. All that I have seen, do not seem to have much trouble in this area.

As for helis and winged based platforms. The same applies. I guess I'm just spoiled using the larger platforms, where this is not as much as a factor/issue. I've flown large scale gassers most of my adult life, and I have never had a single problem over a few ounces. Even the Copterworks AF25B which is a relatively heavy bird, does not seem to mind an extra pound or so. I call it a rotary/tank aircraft.

In any event, I understand where your are coming from. Thanks.
